Chapter Initiatives & Programming
In keeping with our sorority's founding principles, Eta Xi Sigma Alumnae chapter seeks to give back to our communities by sponsoring and participating in various programs and community outreach. Below are some of our sorority’s international and local chapter initiatives.
Project Cradle Care
Sigma Gamma Rho is also concerned with teenage pregnancy and parenthood in the U.S. Approximately 13 percent of all birth defects affect babies born to teenage mothers. Adolescent childbearing presents health risks to both moms and their babies. These health risks have long-term consequences for teenagers, their babies and society.

Through Project Cradle Care Prenatal Health Program, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and the March of Dimes join forces with medical professionals and community-based organizations to educate and raise awareness in high-risk communities of prematurity prevention by hosting informational baby showers, health symposiums and health fairs. Participants receive information on prenatal and postnatal care, birth defects, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), newborn care and more.
Eta Xi Sigma Chapter hosts its Project Cradle Care Health Program in conjunction with community allies and provides education and necessities to expectant moms as part of our annual program.
Hattie McDaniel Bras & Bagels Breast Cancer Awareness
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer awareness is critically important for women, especially in communities of color. Eta Xi Sigma alumnae chapter hosts it's annual Hattie McDaniel Bras & Bagels Breast Cancer Awareness event, which includes cancer awareness education, presentations, survivor testimonies, along with bra fittings and a fashion show. And of course bagels for everyone!
Annual Pre-Mother's Day Scholarship & Fashion Show
Our Signature Event.
Eta Xi Sigma Alumnae Chapter's Annual Pre-Mother's Day Scholarship Luncheon & Fashion Show is a sell-out event that you don't want to miss. Every year, our chapter gives away thousands of dollars to deserving high school students to help them achieve their goal of a college education. Scholarship is essential to our Sorority's founding and we strive to continue to do our part through philanthropic programming.

Also, in May, we gather to celebrate our mothers and mother-figures, to whom we are forever grateful. An atmosphere of celebration and fun, complete with a fashion show highlighting local area clothiers, this event will not disappoint. Contact the EXS Rhomania committee for more tickets or more information.
Teen Driver Safety Fair
Every year, thousands of teenagers get behind the wheel and unfortunately are involved in accidents that can be life altering. Our chapter hosts an annual Teen Driver Safety Fair to educate high school and junior high school students about safe driving and being responsible behind the wheel.

EXS has partnered with State Farm®, Rush Copley Medical Center and Illinois Partner for Traffic safety to provide an educational and fun fair for students.
